See Charlie and Dave’s glorious glee-club type thing The Silver Ages

As you may or may not know, TLBAS vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Charlie Hall and bassist/vocalist Dave Hartley are members in good standing of a fairly fantastic and rather large (a baker’s dozen) all-male choral ensemble known as The Silver Ages. Every year just before or after the holidays they set up shop in a non-trad Philadelphia venue to make harmony and merry, drink drinks, offer sweets, wear tweed, and present fabulous musical guests.

They will do all of this and likely more on January 15, 2010 at The Ethical Society, a lovely space located on Philly’s picturesque - especially in winter - Rittenhouse Square. I can’t recommend attending enough - it’s just a fantastic night of music. Tickets are available here, and they’re going fast. Full press release after the jump. And the group’s hopelessly out of date MySpace page is here.

Dearest Friends, Family, and Gerry,

We can hardly believe it, but another year has gone by. They’re calling it “2010” and who can blame them? But with the close of another year comes a time for reflection, freezing weather, spending time with the ones you love, very special episodes, crowded airports, and perhaps most importantly The Fourth Annual Holiday Concert By The Silver Ages!

As you may or may not recall, last year’s concert had to be postponed because of a crazy blizzard that covered the entire East Coast in several feet of snow. It was pretty to look at, but made it really hard to throw a concert. So we ended up moving it back to January, which turned out to be such a great idea we’ve decided to do it again!

If past experience has taught us anything, it’s that you shouldn’t have your big holiday concert on December 19th because a huge snowstorm will come along and force you to change the date. But it also taught us that lots more folks can make it because they’re not running around buying presents or going to parties.

So consider January 15 a night to extend that feeling of seasonal joy and togetherness two whole weeks past its regular expiration date.

As has been our tradition these past few years, we will be joined by exciting special guests. Joining us for the first time is Luke Temple, of Brooklyn’s Here We Go Magic. This is a great chance to see one of New York’s most exciting new talents perform solo (full disclosure: we’ve been a fan of his for years). Our other guest is making her debut appearance with The Silver Ages and her name is Eliza Hardy and you might have heard her really-beautiful-singing if you’ve ever heard the really-beautiful-band Buried Beds. We’re extremely honored and excited to have both of them with us this year at The Ethical Society.

Wait, what was that? The Ethical Society? Yes, The Ethical Society. That’s where we’re having the concert this year! It’s a lovely space located on Rittenhouse Square. As always, there will be complimentary food and refreshments. While we would consider this a “flask-appropriate event”, and we certainly do encourage it in this case, (as opposed to, say, my nephews’ school choir concert last night), you can expect the usual array of refreshments including but not limited to The Silver Ages Pimms Cup.

So we hope you’ll join us on January 15th at 8:00pm for another magical evening of song, and help us ring in a wonderful 2011! See below for ticketing information.

Love,

The Silver Ages

(Charlie, Shai, Todd, Josh, Rick, Gianmarco, Dave, Other Dave, BC, Beaver, THE NEW GUY*, Heyward, and Dan as well) *We look forward to introducing our very newest member of The Silver Ages. We think most of you will recognize him. We’re excited about it.
